It is important for everyone who travels to know what they can bring in or take out of the country they are going to. In this text, we will refer to Montenegro and the current rules on customs procedures that apply in our country. When it comes to goods, personal luggage with items up to €300 in road and €450 in air and sea transport is not subject to customs duty and VAT.
1. Entry/amount of money in cash. When it comes to cash, the passenger can physically bring in or take out an amount of up to 10,000 euros, or another currency of the same equivalent value, without the obligation to report to customs control.
2. Medicines. Regardless of the state of health, none of us goes on a trip without a pill or at least a probiotic. It is allowed to possess a reasonable amount of medication for personal use, which means medication for a maximum of six months. If the medicine contains drugs, the passenger can carry it with him for a maximum of 30 days with a certificate from the chosen doctor.
3. Weapons and ammunition are subject to special procedures. The traveler can bring in weapons and ammunition for his own needs, with approval for the acquisition of weapons from the Ministry of the Interior and a permit from the Ministry of Economy. He is also obliged to report to the customs and police authorities. If it is an organized hunting or some kind of sports competition, when crossing the border, in addition to reporting to the competent authority, the traveler must have a document on weapons and proof of the purpose of transferring weapons and ammunition.
4. Intake of food, herbs and plant products. A traveler can bring into Montenegro food for personal use in the following quantities:
• dried fruits, vegetables, raw coffee, spices and teas up to one kilogram,
• one liter for alcoholic beverages, two for others and five for bottled water in original packaging.
An exception exists for food products used for medical reasons, if these products do not require special storage conditions. When being transported across the border, they must be in undamaged packaging and with a clearly marked declaration.
A small amount of plants and plant products can be imported without the inspection and approval of the phytosanitary inspection if they are intended for personal use and not for commercial or industrial purposes.
